# TVU Go Multistreaming vs StreamableRun Vertical and Destination Control Put a 16:9 street camera on a phone-shaped screen and the problem is obvious. The host’s face becomes a tiny dot. The person they are interviewing gets cut in half. A sponsor bug lands on somebody’s forehead. Chat is either unreadable or blocks the action. Sending the same landscape frame to another platform is multistreaming; it is not automatically a vertical production. That distinction is the whole purchase decision for a creator who wants Twitch in 16:9 and TikTok or another vertical destination in 9:16. TVU Go’s April 15, 2025 launch announcement said the app could stream to up to five platforms at once on its then-current Unlimited plan. That is a useful historical multistream claim. It does not say that each output received an independently composed vertical show, and it should not be repeated as a current plan limit. StreamableRun’s Vertical Editor and cloud control panel solve a different problem: making and operating a separate vertical presentation of the program. ## At the workbench: lay out the two audiences Before touching an encoder setting, draw two rectangles. The first is the 16:9 program for Twitch: wide establishing shot, host on one side, guest on the other, perhaps a lower third and a small chat overlay. The second is the 9:16 program: a tall phone screen, with much less width and very little patience for tiny text. The same event can live in both rectangles, but it cannot be composed by accident. Ask what the vertical viewer needs to understand within a second. At a street food stall, that may be the host’s face and the dish, stacked vertically. During a walking segment, it may be the host’s face at the top, the street action in the middle, and a restrained caption at the bottom. During a game or desktop segment, it might be a focused gameplay crop with the camera in a safe corner. A useful vertical layout makes a choice about what is important; a careless crop just removes whatever happened to be at the edges. Twitch itself acknowledged the format difference when it announced Dual Format Streaming in June 2026, describing simultaneous horizontal and vertical streams. TikTok LIVE Studio’s official help documents a dual-layout workflow and notes that portrait is the primary view for many TikTok viewers. The platform trend does not remove the production work. It makes that work visible. ## Build the landscape program first, then refuse to copy it blindly Landscape usually has room for an establishing composition. A host walking with a guest can both remain in frame. A producer can place a lower third at the bottom without covering their faces. Wide action—a queue, a stage, a vehicle, a group reaction—has space to breathe. Build that program as its own finished output. Then open the vertical canvas and make different choices. Do not simply zoom the 16:9 result until it fills 9:16. That is how the interview becomes a chin-and-jacket shot. Instead, choose a vertical source arrangement. Use a different camera angle if the field kit has one. Reframe the main camera around the current speaker. Put a map, text, or chat only where it is legible. Remove an overlay that was fine on desktop but suffocates a phone screen. StreamableRun’s Vertical Editor exists for this second composition. The field operator still sends contribution; the cloud production layer can turn it into differently framed output. ## Three framing drills that reveal whether the vertical show is real **The two-person interview.** In landscape, keep both people readable, with enough surrounding context to understand where they are. In vertical, decide whose reaction matters at each moment. A split can work if both faces remain large; a stacked layout can work if a producer can switch the primary speaker. A centered crop that catches half of each person usually communicates neither the interview nor the atmosphere. **The moving host.** In landscape, the host can be a third of the frame while the street provides context. In vertical, the host’s head and hands need more deliberate space. Leave room for a short caption but do not turn the bottom third into a dashboard. If the host turns the phone, moves through a crowd, or changes lens, check the vertical preview before assuming the old crop still works. **The desktop handoff.** A wide desktop screen often needs a different vertical story altogether. For TikTok, show the relevant application, game window, or browser source at a readable scale; use the camera as supporting material. If no useful vertical composition exists for that segment, make an honest transition scene rather than sending illegible desktop pixels. These drills are production decisions, not platform tricks. They take a producer’s attention, which is exactly why a cloud control panel is valuable when the creator is busy on location. ## What TVU’s multistream claim does—and does not answer The dated TVU Go launch page described a phone-first product that could multistream to five platforms on the launch Unlimited plan. It also described dual-camera modes, overlays, and screen sharing. Those are meaningful features for a creator who wants one mobile app to distribute a single field experience widely. The current TVU Anywhere page is branded differently and describes an app connected to IRL Toolkit hosted OBS; verify its current plan behavior and destinations directly with TVU. The fair question is not whether TVU ‘has multistreaming.’ It is whether the current workflow can create and control the two distinct outputs this show needs. A direct phone-app multistream can be enough for a simple broadcast where every platform gets the same acceptable frame. It is a weak answer when Twitch needs a wide program while TikTok needs a composed, readable portrait show, and when a remote producer must respond to a destination problem without borrowing the host’s phone. ## Give every destination an owner and a personality An output is more than a stream key. It has a format, title, category, audience expectation, preview, and failure mode. In the control panel, give Twitch a landscape program and an owner who checks the actual public player. Give TikTok a vertical program and an owner who watches it on a phone-sized view. If a custom RTMP or another platform is part of the show, name that output and test its requirements separately. Independent destination control means a problem on one output does not automatically trigger a teardown of the others. If the vertical destination needs a correction, the producer should be able to work on that output while the landscape audience continues receiving the main program when possible. If an overlay does not read in portrait, revise the vertical composition instead of degrading the widescreen show for everyone. StreamableRun is strongest here because the destinations and vertical production live in the cloud control path, separate from the mobile sender. The host can keep walking or interviewing. The producer can inspect the vertical layout, route the program, and use prepared scenes. This does not guarantee that each destination will accept every setting; it gives a team a better place to make the resulting decisions. ## The preflight on a real phone A desktop preview lies politely. Before an event, watch the vertical output on an actual phone at normal viewing distance. Can you read the host’s name? Is the face visible in low light? Does the chat overlay cover the one thing people came to see? Does a lower third disappear under platform controls? Is the music and speech at a usable level? Run the same check for landscape on a desktop or TV-like screen. Check titles, categories, privacy states, and public playback for each destination. Take a vertical scene, a landscape scene, and a holding scene through the cloud program. If the field source drops, confirm that both audience formats receive something intentional rather than a mismatched frozen crop. Keep the scene list short. A live wide scene, a live vertical scene, a vertical portrait-safe holding scene, a landscape holding scene, and one clean return scene may be enough. A dozen nearly identical layouts create hesitation at the exact moment a producer must move. ## When one output is the sensible choice Not every stream deserves two live formats. A solo creator with no producer and no clear vertical concept can make a better show by choosing one format deliberately. A landscape-first interview might stay landscape. A phone-native walk might stay vertical. The goal is not to collect destinations; it is to give each audience a coherent reason to watch. Add the second output when it has a clear audience and someone can own it. If the vertical show is only a cropped afterthought, build the wide program well and revisit later.
