Who is HMBLZAYY?

HMBLZAYY is Isaiah Thomas, a Philadelphia streamer who also goes by Minister Zay and HMBL Zay. On Twitch he streams IRL, and lately that has meant one thing: he walks, the camera walks with him, and chat covers the miles together.

Twitch's own channel page showed about 72,000 followers on October 6, 2026, with the follower goal bar reading 71,995 out of 72,000. TwitchMetrics listed 71,927 followers the same day. He is new to the platform. Sportskeeda reported that he joined Twitch in November 2025, and TwitchMetrics dates his first recorded stream to January 3, 2026. The walk that put him in national news started less than three months after that first recorded stream, and Sportskeeda put his channel at just over 24,200 followers in late April, about a month in. That is roughly 48,000 more followers since.

He grew up in the Nicetown section of North Philadelphia, as he told CBS Philadelphia in 2021, and the city is stamped all over the channel. The stream tags read HMBLFAITHWALK, HMBLZAYY and MINISTERZAY, and the about page still tells people to watch the "Philly to Cali walk" and calls it a 3000 mile journey "after being hit by 2 cars."

Here is the quick version for anyone arriving cold. In 2026 he walked from Philadelphia to California on camera in 124 days, raised nearly $200,000 toward a trade school for teenagers, got a key to the city when he came home, and by October 6 was two days into his next walk, a 1,000-mile trek through Canada.

Before Twitch: hoodies, a clothing brand, and a peace walk

Thomas was known around Philadelphia before most of his Twitch followers had heard of him. CBS Philadelphia profiled his streetwear business, Stay Humble Stay Hungry Clothing, in September 2021, when it had storefronts in Willow Grove, Moorestown and the Palisades Center in New York. It was the first recipient of the station's Small Wins Grant, a $50,000 award. When CBS covered his walk in 2026, it described him as known in the region for his clothing line, HMBL, which matches the HMBL in his handle.

The way he tells the start of that business is simple. In the fundraiser text quoted by Dexerto, Thomas wrote that he had to leave college after his sophomore year because his parents could not afford it, and that he "started small, selling pressed hoodies out of the back of my car." He says hard work and consistency turned that into a profitable business.

The walking started before the cross-country trip. CBS Philadelphia reports that he did a seven-day peace walk to the Richmond Slave Trail in Virginia for Black History Month, and that the money raised sent five kids from Philadelphia to Disney World. Primetimer's profile describes his earlier posts as prayers for people in distress and peace walks.

The Disney trip is where CBS says the bigger idea began. "These kids having fun right now, but how can we be able to influence and impact these kids' life forever?" Thomas said. The answer was HMBL University, a trade-focused school and summer camp for underserved teenagers who may not have access to a traditional four-year college, and a walk across the country to pay for it.

The Faith Walk, from Philadelphia to California

Thomas left Philadelphia on March 26, 2026, pushing a cart of supplies and streaming the trip on Twitch. IndyStar reported the plan as 3,000 miles in about 100 days, with the money going to HMBL University. Early coverage listed the fundraising goal at $250,000, with about $42,000 raised on the GoFundMe at that point. Later coverage, including NBC Philadelphia, put the goal at $200,000. The school he described would teach skills like plumbing, electrical engineering, financial literacy and accounting.

The first stretch was Pennsylvania. Thomas told CBS Philadelphia it was about 28 degrees in the mountains when he started and that the Pennsylvania climbs were the hardest part of the whole trip because of the elevation. HypeFresh reported that a stranger stopped to help when he was struggling through the Appalachians, and that a police stop in Missouri turned into a conversation about his purpose and faith.

By June he was in the Topeka, Kansas area, dealing with heat and leaning on the locals he met. HypeFresh says one teacher prayed with the group. The route later climbed Colorado's Wolf Creek Summit, which tops out at 10,856 feet according to The Source, and on July 13 he crossed into New Mexico after passing 2,400 miles.

He crossed into California near Needles on July 27, day 124, in a Kelly green Saquon Barkley jersey, according to CBS Philadelphia. The Source put the total at nearly $200,000 raised. At the finish he said, "Anything is possible," and he told CBS, "We all get one life, and why not be great?" Faith Walk Live, an unofficial fan-run tracker, counts the walk at 6.6 million steps and keeps a clip archive of the route.

Indiana, and getting back on the road

The walk's biggest news came on April 28 in Wayne County, Indiana, about 650 miles in. IndyStar reported that Thomas was walking west on U.S. 40 near Hildebrand Road when a support car following his walk was hit from behind by another vehicle and pushed into him. Police said at the time that the investigation was ongoing and that no one had been charged. A clip from his live stream spread widely online that week.

Thomas went to the hospital for tests and posted an update from his bed the next day: "We're gonna finish this race." RNB Philly reported a concussion, bruising and a sprained ankle. He later said, "I made a promise to God, no matter what happens, I'm going to finish it. I don't care if I have to crawl to the finish line." After a stretch of recovery, he went back to the spot where the crash happened and kept walking west.

Back home, then Canada

NBC Philadelphia reported that Thomas had been back in Philadelphia for a few weeks when it spoke with him, and that the mayor had presented him with a key to the city. "It put a lot of pressure on me, cause I'm the type of person who likes to live up to the expectation of whatever type of title or whatever I'm doing," he said. He also gave a timeline for the school: "In the next two to three years, I would like HMBL University to be built from ground up."

The next walk was already on the calendar. Thomas told NBC Philadelphia he planned to start a 1,000-mile trip through Canada in October, finishing in 30 days at about 35 miles a day. "And Canada, that's like my next mission, is to do 1,000 miles in Canada," he said. "Right back to it."

The Twitch channel confirmed it on October 6. The live title read "WALKING 1000 MILES IN CANADA | DAY 2/30 | ONTARIO, ON | !faithwalk !support !donate," the category was IRL, and about 270 people were watching roughly five hours into the broadcast.

What a HMBLZAYY stream looks like

TwitchMetrics lists HMBLZAYY as an IRL streamer and ranks him number 144 among English-language IRL channels on Twitch over the last 30 days. Its rolling 30-day snapshot on October 6 showed 31 hours streamed, an average of 241 viewers and a peak of 500. That window includes the start of the Canada walk, and it is a third-party snapshot rather than a promise about every stream.

The channel page itself is full of small details. The sub goal asks for 10 new subs and shows 155. The title carries a day counter, which makes every broadcast easy to place in the larger walk. The title also lists three chat commands: !faithwalk, !support and !donate.

Viewers keep showing up for the walking itself. HypeFresh describes supporters sending encouragement, prayers and occasional practical help along the route, and the live format means they can say it to him in real time. The New Mexico welcome-sign clip it describes shows him in a green number 26 jersey, a bucket hat, a safety vest and neon sneakers beside his cart, hands on his head, visibly emotional.

At the finish he also talked directly to younger viewers: "The kids that's watching, anything you want to do, you could do it."

Where to follow HMBLZAYY

Twitch is the live home, and right now that means the Canada walk, day by day. The about panel links his TikTok, YouTube and Instagram.

Instagram is where he has posted updates, including the hospital message after Indiana. His Instagram handle is ministerzay. YouTube is under Hmblzay1, and TikTok is under hmblzayy.

His Linktree collects the rest: the GoFundMe for the HMBL summer camp for teens, the HMBL Miles Run/Walk Club on Strava, and the HMBL University Discord server.

HMBLZAYY has about 72,000 Twitch followers, a finished 3,000-mile walk behind him, and 1,000 Canadian miles ahead of him.

Streamable is happy to support HMBLZAYY's streams and help keep them running clean so they can stay live without dealing with tech issues.
